Elias was born a noble in Calimshan.  He has one older brother who was preparing to take his father's place at the head of the house the last time Elias saw him.  Elias being the younger brother, he was sent to the mage school to train and return to serve the family as the house mage.

While at the wizard's school he found himself always interested in necromancy and found and made friends with other students who had similar interests.  Necromancy was not a school of magic that was allowed at the mage school so he and his friends had to practice and research the stuff in secret.

One night, he and his friends had become confident enough to attempt a summoning of a dark spirit.   They had hoped to control it and to force it to become their slave, but of course it broke free and and killed most of them before they were able to banish it again.

Elias was able to escape, but not unscathed.  During the battle with the creature, it had swiped at Elias and struck him several times infusing him with dark energy.  This caused a change in him which awoke his latent sorcerous abilities.

When Elias realized that he was now able to cast spells without the use of his spellbook, he didn't know it was due to touch of the demon. He believes that it was Azuth, the God of magic, that saved him from the demon and that it was Azuth that granted him these abilities so that he may venture out into the world and atone for summoning the demon.

Elias has now left the magic school to travel and do good in the world.
