The slate gray walls surrounding the Cathedral of Chauntea match the bricks that comprise the cathedral within. Two breeches in the wall are the entrances to the well maintained gardens of the church. As you pass through the entrance, you gaze up at the seven tiers of the tower before you, each one jutting narrower and higher into the air.
High atop the single mighty spire raising from the last tier a clock is affixed. This gold and silver plated device, the Clock of Seasons, takes an entire year to complete a cycle, and is marked with the seasons instead of numbers.
The gardens in front of the cathedral are well maintained, and contain a variety of plants and wildflowers from all across Faerun. Spiral patterns of blooms grow across small knolls, carefully placed for design. Patches of moss cover much of the surface of the two lowest tiers, over which vines droop from planters on ledges above. A variety of trees from near and far provide shade along the main walkway to the entrance of the church.
The cobbled path leads to the elevated square at the entrance of the cathedral, and also curves to either side of it, leading to the small cemetery behind it. As you walk up the seven steps to the square you notice the large sundial at one side of it.
